Today, I Saw The Sun Set | Poetry

This poem is dedicated to all of us who Nigeria is forcing to relocate and change country of origin. May the force be with all of us!

Lol… Happy reading.

TODAY, I SAW THE SUN SET…

I sat on the stairs and looked at the sky,
Blue, orange, white, and grey.
I sat there and watched the light recede,
The darkness had driven it away.
Today, I saw the sun set.

I saw the dark blue infected with grey,
The moon first and the stars came later.
The gentle breeze carried the clouds to nothingness.
The light was getting smaller and smaller,
And soon, it’s self esteem was gone.
Today, I saw the sun set.

It unsettled me,
Made my heart twist in my chest,
And the birds sang songs I wish I didn’t hear,
It made me turn away,
And hide my face,
Today, I saw the sun set.

It unsettled me,
Not because it was getting dark,
But because in the looming darkness,
I saw a familiar face,
The face of a country that I didn’t deserve,
One that didn’t deserve me,
Today, I saw the sun set.

I stood from where I sat,
I’d decided,
I would follow the light wherever it went.
Today, I saw the sun set,

Now I wish I hadn’t seen it at all.
